Growing up in the North York Moors, Simon's interest in photography started as a child in the 1980s when he bought a plastic Halina Pix 110T camera while on holiday in Cornwall. He soon upgraded to an SLR film camera and photographed anything from still life to motorsport, but photography had always been a casual interest until an unfortunate change of circumstance in 2012.

Chronic pain became a catalyst for change, but it was the joy of a dog called Meg that led Simon to retrace his childhood steps and explore woodland with Meg by his side and a camera over his shoulder. The therapeutic benefits of time with trees were a profound experience for Simon, an experience that quickly transformed his view of the world and in 2018 he became a full-time photographer of trees and woodland.

Simon now enjoys an international reputation for his empathetic and unique approach to his work. His view of trees is inspired by a strong emotional connection to nature, and his passionate drive to create unique images which express his deep gratitude for how trees have transformed his life.

Although he's photographed many fantastic woodlands in the UK, there's nothing Simon loves more than to immerse himself in small, quiet, local woodlands, and enjoy the restorative power of solitary time with trees. Simon also started the Meg's Grove initiative through Trees For Life, to which 2,300 trees have been donated.

Simon is the author of Gathering Time, joint author of Woodland Sanctuary, and his meticulously produced prints are shipped worldwide.
